STORY

Short Film Story: While babysitting her one-year-old niece for the first time, Vyda, a young woman crippled by severe agoraphobia and obsessive-compulsive disorder, finally feels she’s earned her sister’s trust. But after drinking contaminated water, Vyda begins to age rapidly and develop a ravenous hunger she can’t explain.

As her body deteriorates and her mind unravels, she fights to protect the baby from the monster she’s becoming. Trapped inside her home by her lifelong fear of the outside world, Vyda’s desperate struggle turns from self-control to self-destruction, culminating in one final, horrifying act of love.

    Director’s Statement

The main inspiration for the style and tone of Blackbird Lane is The Babdook (recently voted 4th in the Top 100 Best Horror Films of the 21st Century).

“I have found that even people who don’t usually like horror films love Blackbird Lane.

I think this is mostly due to its emotional gravitas and universal themes of love and sacrifice, as it begs the question… how far would you go to save a child you love… even from yourself.”
